bye-bye brass!

I went to Studio Kay Salon in Glendale, CA again to retouch my outgrown and extremely yellow ombré. I last did my hair in September 2014 (refreshing my hair after 3 months of turquoise hair).

I usually like to wait 4-6 months in between hair bleaching appointments to not overwhelming or over process my hair. (Another thing I love about an ombré, when it grows out it doesn't look too horrible!)

We started by razoring the out-grown front portion of my hair to frame my face and lightly add a bit of texture and body. Lara then separated my hair into 5 sections and worked those 5 sections into smaller sections where she teased and applied level 30 peroxide bleach (usually she does 25, but added opalex this time to help protect my hair). After the bleach was applied and weaved upward I sat for about 20-30 minutes and then got rinsed out.

I don't particularly like warm golden tones on my hair because of my skin tone (olive), I find that ashy-cooler blonde tones look better. So she rinsed my hair to rid the bleach and added Pravna silver with toner to add a cooler tone to the blonde. Then Lara washed my hair out with her own LCKHairCare Marilyn a righting shampoo & conditioner.
Marilyn Brightening Shampoo and Conditioner available here.
I absolutely love this shampoo and conditioner! The purple helps to remove brass ones from by hair when the toner fades, I use it 1-2x a week (I wash my hair everyday). The shampoo and conditioner also have tid bits of shimmer within them and make the hair look so shiny and healthy.

How I keep my hair healthy:

• I don't use heat!
I let my hair air dry and usually wear it straight down, but I will style it occasionally with a curling iron, but not periodically.

• I don't over process my hair!
I wait 4-5 months before my next hair appointment, but I know it's not ideal for everyone because my roots aren't dyed. it took be about 3 sessions (1 year) to get my hair a nice-non orange-blonde, and now I just maintain it every few months.

• Vitamins!
An important factor in hair and nail health is diet. I use to take biotin pills consistently for abut 5 months to help my hair and nails grow, but drinking water and consuming the daily required vitamins is also really important!

• Leave in products
I usually don't use leave in products because I have an irrational fear that they will break me out (pillow residue!!), but if I do feel like my ends are really dry I like to use a Moroccan or Argan oil just in the dry parts of my hair.

I hope this helps anyone considering dying their hair!
